  • Double batch of Southern caramel icing

Instructions

1. Prepare the pans

Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease and flour three cake pans, then set them aside.

2. Cream the butter and sugar

In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until the mixture becomes light and creamy.

3. Add the eggs

Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition until fully incorporated.

4. Add flour and buttermilk

Gradually add the self-rising flour and buttermilk, alternating between the two. Begin with the flour and end with the flour, mixing until the batter is smooth.

5. Bake the layers

Divide the batter evenly among the three prepared cake pans.
