Making homemade juice is a great way to ensure you’re getting your essential nutrients in a tasty way. This recipe for orange, carrot and ginger juice is not only sweet and tangy, but also rich in vitamin C, making it a great way to boost your immune system. With a blender, you can easily make this refreshing drink without the need for a juicer!

Juice Ingredients

To make this delicious carrot, orange and ginger juice, you only need a few fresh ingredients:

Fresh oranges – Valencia or navel oranges are the best varieties for homemade juice.

Fresh carrots – rich in beta-carotene, which gives it the vibrant orange color. The carrots add volume and natural sweetness, but the flavor comes primarily from the orange and spicy ginger.

Fresh ginger – this root is full of anti-inflammatory properties and adds a slightly spicy flavor that balances the natural sweetness of the juice.

How to Make Orange, Carrot, and Ginger Juice

Step 1: Cut the oranges in half and use a citrus press or a handheld juicer to extract the juice. I recommend a citrus press to get everything out.

Step 2: Place the orange juice in the bottom of a high-speed blender, along with the grated ginger and chopped carrots. Blend on high speed until the mixture is completely smooth. Depending on the strength of your blender, this may take a few minutes.

Step 3: Strain the pulp by placing a fine-mesh strainer or nut milk bag over a large bowl. Pour in the juice and squeeze out all the juice until the pulp is dry. If you are using a fine-mesh strainer, you can use the back of a spoon to help press the juice through. You may need to do this in several passes depending on the size of your tools.

Step 4: Store the juice in the refrigerator in a glass jar, such as a mason jar, or other airtight container for up to 3 days.

Adapt the Recipe: Substitutions and Variations

Remember that recipes are just a starting point. How can you make this orange, carrot, and ginger juice with what you already have at home? Here are some ideas:

No orange carrots? – You can also use rainbow carrots.

Add-ins – Apples, fresh lemon juice, turmeric (with a pinch of black pepper), cayenne pepper, etc.

Variations

Cara Cara oranges – feel free to use this beautiful variety if it’s in season.

Blood oranges – this will change the color of the juice to a more ruby red shade, but it will still be delicious.

Tangerines or satsumas – juice them the same way you would an orange to avoid bitterness, but you will need to use more than the recipe calls for to get the correct amount of juice, which is about 1 ¾ cups.

Helpful Tips

It’s not necessary to peel the ginger or carrots, as you will be removing the pulp anyway. Just make sure to wash them thoroughly.

Do not blend the whole orange to make juice. If you just remove the orange peel and blend the whole orange with the other ingredients, the juice will have a very bitter taste, which is due to the white skin and membranes of the citrus fruit.

Don't have a powerful blender? You may need to cut the carrots into smaller pieces or even grate them to make it easier for the blender.
