Christmas Fruit Cocktail
This Christmas Fruit Cocktail is one of those timeless holiday recipes that never goes out of style. Made with colorful fresh and canned fruits soaked in a sweet citrus juice, it’s light, refreshing, and the perfect addition to any Christmas dinner or holiday gathering. The best part is that you can make it ahead of time, and it actually tastes even better after sitting in the refrigerator for a day or two as all the delicious flavors blend together.
Ingredients
- 2 cans (20 oz each) pineapple chunks, drained
- 2 cans (15 oz each) pear halves or diced pears, drained and cut into bite-sized pieces
- 2 cans (15 oz each) peach chunks, drained
- 2 fresh apples, diced
- 3–4 mandarin oranges, peeled and separated into segments
- 1 cup seedless grapes
- 1 cup maraschino cherries, drained and halved
- 2 cups orange juice
- 1 cup pineapple juice
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 2–4 tablespoons granulated sugar, optional, depending on how sweet you like it
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions
- Drain all of the canned fruit well to keep the cocktail from becoming watery.
- Wash and prepare the fresh fruit by dicing the apples, separating the mandarin orange segments, and rinsing the grapes.
- In a large mixing bowl, gently combine the pineapple, pears, peaches, apples, grapes, mandarin oranges, and maraschino cherries.
- In another bowl or large measuring cup, whisk together the orange juice, pineapple juice, lemon juice, sugar, and vanilla extract until the sugar is dissolved.
- Pour the juice mixture over the fruit and gently stir until every piece is coated.
- Transfer the fruit cocktail to large glass jars or an airtight container.
- Refrigerate for at least 12 hours, but for the best flavor let it chill for 24 to 48 hours before serving.
- Stir gently before serving and enjoy cold.
Tips
- This fruit cocktail is even more delicious on day two or three because the fruit absorbs the citrus juices.
- Add sliced bananas just before serving if desired, as they can brown during storage.
- Chopped pecans or walnuts make a delicious topping for extra crunch.
- For a festive touch, garnish with fresh mint leaves before serving.
Storage
Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 4–5 days. Stir gently before each serving to redistribute the juices.
This colorful fruit cocktail is sweet, refreshing, and always a favorite on the holiday table. It’s the perfect make-ahead recipe for Christmas dinners, potlucks, family gatherings, or any special celebration. Everyone loves the bright mix of juicy fruit, and the flavors only get better with time!
