Bug found in my friends hair. What is it? (Please tell me it’s not the L word)

Okay, deep breath 😅 — without seeing it, nobody can honestly confirm it’s the L-word. Hair bugs get misidentified all the time.

Here’s some calm reality first 👇
Most things people find in hair are NOT lice. Common impostors:

  • Ant / baby ant – super common, especially if outside or near food

  • Spider / mite – can wander into hair accidentally

  • Flea – jumps, doesn’t live in hair

  • Bed bug nymphvery rare in hair, usually on clothes/skin

  • Lint / seed / debris – panic classic

  • Bug found in my friends hair. What is it? (Please tell me it’s not the L word)

    Quick self-check (no panic yet)

    Ask your friend:

    • Did it jump? → not lice

    • Did it crawl fast? → lice move slow

    • Was there only one? → lice come in multiples

    • Any itching for days? → lice itch builds over time

What lice actually look like (so you know)

    • Tiny (sesame-seed size)

    • Gray/tan

    • Flat, slow crawlers

    • Eggs (nits) are glued to hair, don’t flick off

    👉 Best next step:
If you can, upload a clear photo (even a phone pic). I can tell you way more accurately in seconds.
